Louise Corti joined the UK Data Archive at the University of Essex in 2001 as Associate Director with responsibility for qualitative data archives Director. She leads the sections on ESDS Qualidata, Outreach and Promotion and Acquisitions. Her research interests, recent research grants and publications involve work to enhance access and re-use digital qualitative data, XML applications for qualitative data, and the application and use of social science data in teaching and learning. In the past four years, Louise has been PI on two ESRC awards on new methods for archiving and sharing qualitative data, and two JISC awards on re-purposing survey data for learning and teaching and on XML exchange standards for multimedia and annotated qualitative data. Between 1994 and 2001, she worked as Deputy Director and Manager of Qualidata based at Essex. Previously, she spent six years working on the design, implementation and analysis of the British Household Panel Study. Louise is formally trained in social research methods and has carried out research in the fields of health, education and survey methodology. She has taught sociology, social research methods, statistics and qualitative software packages.
